This week Grace and I played host to Keith who was on his way to Grad School out East. We've gotten pretty good at cramming DC into a short time frame. All it really takes is the willingness to walk and walk and walk. We also have learned a thing or two about DC in the past few months.
1. Public tours of all three branches of government are not the best. You need to know someone on the "inside" to get "access."
2. The National Museum of the American Indian is no dice.
3. Ditto on the tour of the Engraving Building.
4. Avoid Mexican food. If a particular restaurant is renowned for their Mexican, still keep your expectations low. (Why do I always try to break this rule? I'm always disappointed. You don't put broccoli in a Quesadilla!)
5. The guy who wears the Question Mark Suit and tries to sell you books about getting government money is a regular at Friday Night Jazz in the Sculpture Garden, and he wears his question mark suit.
6. If it doesn't get a lot of press attention, it's usually because it's not very interesting, not because it's an "undiscovered jewel." (Examples - Dragon Boat races in Georgetown, Soap Box derby on the Capital. . . is it races in general?)
We set this up to keep in touch with people we may not see for awhile. So keep in touch. We'll try to keep this thing interesting and updated frequently.
